Life Sciences and Medicine are specialist fields in which academic research in the Tyrol holds an internationally recognised and strong position. There is thus a natural professional focus within CAST´s support and promotion of university spin-offs. As a result, the CAST also plays a key role in the establishment of the Tyrol Life Science location. Its fortification and substantial international development is firmly anchored within the economic development plan of the Tyrol.

In order to optimise and support the development and marketing of the Tyrol Life Science location, the CAST is, within the location initiative "Bio.Com.Net II", working close-partnered with the KMT (Kompetenzzentrum Medizin Tirol [Tyrol Medicine Center of Competence], the HITT (health information technologies tirol), Life Science Austria (LISA), the Büro für Wissenschafts- und Wissensmanagement [Office of Science and Knowledge Management] of the Innsbruck University of Medicine, the projekt.service.buero [Project Service Office] (p.s.b.) of the Innsbruck Leopold-Franzens University, the UMIT [private university for health science, medical IT and technology] and Prisma, Zentrum für Regional- und Standortentwicklung GmbH.

"Bio.Com.Net II" is a programme of the Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Innovation und Technologie (BMVIT) [Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology] aimed at the promotion of incentives at regional level. It is being processed by the Österreichische Forschungsförderunggesellschaft (FFG) [Austrian Research Promotion Agency]. Co-financing is done by the individual applicants’ Regions. The co-financing partner of "Bio.Com.Net II" is the Tiroler Zukunftsstiftung [Tyrol Future Foundation].
