Brief description:
AlcaSynn develops drugs whose target molecules are opioid receptors. The lead product is around 120x more effective than morphine at relieving pain and, at the same time, does not demonstrate any of the side effects typically associated with morphine, such as respiratory depression, drowsiness or potential dependency.

Severe pain therapy can be significantly improved using the AlcaSynn agent. The absence of any risk of respiratory failure means that, in the event of very severe acute pain, for the first time a pain reliever can be administered in sufficient quantity to actually rid the patient of pain without having to accept any restriction in breathing ability.

Besides pain, the AlcaSynn opiates are also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory skin diseases, intestinal obstruction, itching and stomach ulcers.

CAST’s tasks:

• Funding of the pre-start-up project together with Life Science Austria (LISA)
• Project management through to interim management
• Support for follow-up funding
• Assistance in negotiations with big pharmaceutical and VC companies.
