PTR-MS (Proton Transfer Reaction Mass Spectrometry) gas analysis technology offers major advantages over conventional techniques for measuring volatile organic molecules in a gaseous carrier medium, such as inhaled air. This technology works quantitatively, has an extremely low detection limit of under 10 pptv (parts per trillion volume, i.e. it is even possible to detect one molecule among 100 billion "air" molecules) and has an extremely high time resolution. The results of the measurement are available in just a few seconds.

PTR-MS technology has the potential to significantly improve non-invasive diagnostics in medicine.
