Brief description:
The PhysTech team, with a scientific background in plasma and ion physics, is working on the development of a high-tech mobile coating plant using PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) technology.

Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) is a widely-used industrial technology for the manufacture of thin coats on a variety of carrier materials (e.g. glass, metals, plastics). The deposition of a thin coat (nm to µm) influences the surface properties of the carrier material as desired. Until now, parts for coating have had to be taken to industrial coating plants. The option of surface modification done locally would bring major benefits, particularly for large machine parts that are difficult to remove from plants.

The mobile PhysTech coating facility is aimed at manufacturers and users of mechanical engineering components in a variety of industries whose surfaces require coating. PhysTech specialises in the following applications: local coating of large (>1m) components, tribological applications (increase in abrasion resistance and surface hardness), protection against corrosion and coating of small parts, prototypes and single units.

CAST’s tasks:

• Support in the generation of the business plan
• Coaching in the strategy for business segments
• Support in strategic and operational business administration
• Funding for the start-up project
