Modern access systems in ski resorts do produce data. The founders of skiline process these data on an individual basis with the help of a technology they have developed themselves. The analyses in question are then posted at www.skiline.cc as an attractive service for skiers. A printout of the user’s own “skiline” shows him the route he/she has taken that day, an analysis of all the lifts he/she has used, the heights he/she has reached in metres and the distance he/she has covered on the piste in kilometres. Cable car operators can use the data to find out more about the skiing behaviour of the people they transport. They will be able to establish marketing and loyalty schemes for what has always been a virtually anonymous target group of daily passengers.
